KRT15 Antibodies

Cytokeratin 15 (CK15), encoded by the KRT15 gene located on chromosome 17q21.2, is a type I intermediate filament protein. It consists of 456 amino acids and has a molecular weight of approximately 50 kDa. CK15 undergoes various post-translational modifications, including phosphorylation, glycosylation, and the formation of disulfide bonds, which can modulate its stability, localization, and function within cells. CK15 is primarily an intracellular protein, serving as a structural component of the cytoskeleton. It is prominently expressed in the hair follicle bulge region, which houses hair follicle stem cells responsible for hair regeneration. Additionally, CK15 expression has been observed in other epithelial tissues, including the epidermis, where it may play a role in tissue repair and regeneration. Various factors, including developmental signals, hormonal influences, and tissue-specific transcription factors, regulate the expression of CK15, ensuring proper tissue homeostasis and function.

Dysregulation of CK15 expression or mutations in the KRT15 gene have been associated with certain skin disorders, such as pachyonychia congenita, a rare genetic condition characterized by thickened nails and palmoplantar keratoderma. Additionally, CK15 expression has been implicated in various skin disorders, particularly those affecting hair follicles. Its detection in skin biopsies can aid in diagnosing and characterizing certain dermatological conditions, such as scarring alopecia or hair follicle disorders.

CK15 expression has been investigated in various malignancies, particularly those of epithelial origin. In some studies, CK15 expression has been associated with more aggressive tumor behavior and poorer prognosis in certain cancers. For example, in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, increased CK15 expression has been linked to higher tumor grade, advanced stage, and worse patient outcomes. Similarly, in certain types of breast cancer, elevated CK15 expression has been correlated with features of aggressive tumor behavior and poorer survival rates.

NeoBiotechnologies offers a variety of antibodies against CK15 that have been validated for flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and Western blotting.
